Default Two piece or custom speedo cable - Help!

I installed EFI onto my engine using a GM computer. The computer requires input from a vehicle speed sensor to control ingition timing and idle. I have solved this by purchasing a vehicle speed sensor which screws into the trans where the speedo cable would go - and provides a signal for the computer. But....

The design of the sensor provides a pass-through for the speedo cable. However, there is not enough clearance on the side of my exhaust to install the speedo cable.

I think I may know a solution - but I have no idea where to find one. If I were to put a cable into the transmission that had an end on it that would mate with the pass-through on the sensor - and then another cable going from the sensor to the speedometer - everything should work.

Does anyone know if cables like this are made? Are the two-piece setups used in the cruise control applications like this?

Any help is appreciated!

My 75 has a 2 piece speedometer cable. Both halves have the same ends. It is like just taking 2 pieces and putting them together. If either were long enough it would work alone. If the adaptor works on the transmission output it should work on the end of the speedo cable or in this case in the middle. Look at your speedo cable end and see if it is the same as the end of the adaptor. If they are identical then the 2 piece speedometer cable will work.

That might work! Let me be more specific: One end of the sensor is exactly like the end of the spedometer cable. The other end of the sensor is exactly like the end on the transmission. It's as if the sensor brings the end on the transmission out two inches or so.

So, it sounds like I can put the sensor in the middle of a two piece cable? That would be awesome!

ppinto1, I am in the process of installing efi and would like to know what speed sensor you used and where you got it. I found a part number for one at the parts store, but the picture is not very clear, but it does look like it would go between the sections of my two piece cable. Also, what other issues have you run into, and how is it running now? Thanks, Hershey :chevy

Hershey, I forgot where I got mine. It may have been TPIS. But, I almost purchased it from Jags That Run. They have a ton of information on their website. Check this URL out http://www.jagsthatrun.com/Pages/Spe...eedometer.html

Don't hesitate to shoot me an email if you have any questions: ppinto@ptd.net

I had a TON of headaches, and I'd be more than happy to help you avoid them.
