ok so here it is.
im buying a 1982 corvette this weekend. the crossfire engine caught on fire. the guy put in a 1979 block 350. when i went to look at it it ran good shifted good. everything works how it should. he never drove it alot hasn't even put 500 miles on since he swiitched everything over. so first i saw it needs a regulator with a return cause it still has fuel pump in the tank. and it still has the computer in the car. so i would imagine everything but the motor is still running on the computer. so my question is if i wanna take out the computer what do i need? i found a torque convertor lock up kit from summit. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/bmm-70244/overview/
if someone can tell me if thats the right one?...
and if i take out the computer how do i keep the fuel pump in the tank? can i just put a mechanical one on? if so what sending unit would i need for the tank? thanks guys!
What kind of carb are you using? The intank fuel pump puts out 15 psi and cannot believe your carb will handle that much pressure without problems. Check the fuel pressure t o see if the po put in a 6 psi pump. What kind of distributor are you using, one with a vacuum canister on it?? You do not want the computer controlled hei. There are various ways to make your tcc lock up but if you do not do a lot of highway driving you can leave it unlocked without causing any damage. I wired my carbed 84(same xfire set up as your 82) c4 by installing a normally open 4th gear pressure switch in the valve body and just running the ground wire from the tcc solenoid to the 4 th gear pressure switch. This will allow the trans to lock up only in 4th gear and I have a toggle switch to prevent 12 volts from going to the tcc solenoid to prevent lockup. You can leave the computer in and just tu v k any sensor wires out of the way.
I would be carefull buying a car that has been on fire .I would be carefull buying a car that some one has changed that much.Look at what distributer he has in it.what carb he has.You may not know what all he has done to it till you get it home.Changing over to a carb is not that hard, but you need to do it right so that you don't have problems down the road. There may be more to the story about the motor swap.if the cross-fire parts were[burned] bad,all he needed was a intake ,carb disributer and a lock up for the tranny. No need to change motor.I cant think of anything the computer does except the motor. You can hot wire the fuel pump.
The fuel pump circuit is not controlled by the computer on a 1982. No need to hotwire it. You need to run a return style regulator or risk fuel percolation problems and early pump failure, mallory 4309 will work.
