Well, got off work and ran straight to Sears....picked up the standard flair nut wrench set, raced home and jacked up the vette. Try the 5/8....to small.....tried the 11/16...too big.
Ok....so I'm thinking maybe the bolt is metric since the hose is brand new....race back to Sears to exchange the set for a metric one...come home and try the 15 mm....too small....try the 17 mm...too big. Go BACK to sears to pick up a 16mm...still too small.
So I am wondeirng what the hell is going on...by now I am p&%$ed. I'm guessing that last night I rounded the nut off just enough to through it all off.
Taking it to a Midas tomorrow morning (shamefully) with hopes that they can at least get it loosened for me.....
The only good news is that I was able to resinstall my alternator and actually have it work.....surprise surprise.
I'm probably going to get heat for this, but here goes:
I have found flare wrenches to be a useless waste of money. They all seem to be made to be just a hair too big so that if you get them on the fitting they'll round it off if it's any kind of tight. This goes for the Craftsman, Husky, Snap-On, Proto and Mac wrenches I've tried, rounded fittings off with and returned.
Also, most of the time when you get a flare wrench on a fitting you can't turn it because the fitting is oriented in such a way so that the wrench goes on in the only position that runs it into interference with something.
That's about the only way a flare wrench won't round off a fitting. Sorry to hear about your probs.
Someone has probably removed it before messing the edges of the nut up. Take a thin rag and put some vice grips on it. Thats what your friendly Midas man would do
I say this thinking you have put some penantrent on the threads. WD 40 is not quite what you need there
I usually take a small air chisel like a CP711 and rattle it's teeth a bit,...not cut the line or beat things up, but just vibrate hell out of it a bit, then try taking nut loose....works most every time...
Too bad you don't live close to me. I would come over and help you remove that stubbern hose. Looks like you need to replace that one hose now. I would unhook the line from the control valve with the correct size flare nut wrench and remove the pump then use a closed end wrench or vice grips to get that nut off. I would trade those wrenches back in for the standerd set. You will need them for your brake lines and auto transmission cooling lines.
Last people to work on the pump really "bubbaed" it.....they have cocking completly sealing the pump in there....so much so I could not get the pump out of the reservoir.
Going to gte the whole setup this afternoon.....figure that will be easier anyways and is only $15 more
