Cracked block
A young fellow that I just met purchased a '69 350/350 a year ago. It needs quite a bit of work and on the way to the body shop, something inside the engine broke. His mechanic said a piston broke away and cracked the block. It is the original block and he was told it was finished. Can a crack be repaired and the cylinder sleeved? Is there any way to save this block? Thanks for your feedback.

It would have to go to a machinist for an appraisal. Any block can be fixed- even busted up by having a rod go through the side-, but it comes down to whether it's worth saving.

Thanks for the responses. I don't really know where the crack is or how bad. I have just passed the info you have given me to the owner. His last message to me was that he was told it was done and he was just going to get what he can for the car and take his loss. He's going to lose quite a bit and if it was me I would not go this route- I would do what I could and save the block and continue with the plan.
