Broke Something in the rear

Broke Something in the rear
Thought I was having tranny problems until we lifted the back end off of the ground and put it in gear. Sounded like a big trash compactor. Could it be something simple (NOT)! Any ideas before I take it in to the shop?

If it sounds like it is inside the pumpkin it is probably the spider gears. Could be the cross shaft broke or if you are like me the ring gear bolts. This would not allow the car to move at all. Sounds like you need to pull the pumpkin out. You will save some money if you can deliver just the pumpkin to the shop. A lot of the cost is removing the unit out of the car. It is not hard just time consuming.

It sounds like you might want to swing by the bank, before heading to the shop. :D
Hopefully, it might just be a u-joint or two. :yesnod:

Thanks for the replies guys. The noise is definately coming out of the rear end and not any of the universal joints. I noticed the Zip has rebuilt rears for $579 with a 3 year warrenty. I may stop by the place just to see what they have in stock. This may be a good time to replace the 2.73s.
