Default Edlebrock 1406 basic questions

Hi,

I have a 1406 mounted in my 76 manual by the PO.
I am not certain it is behaving the way it should and would like to understand things a bit better.

Couple of questions:
1) If you adjust/rotate the electric choke, do you see the choke plate moving?
See the arrows on the photo if my terminology is not correct. Mine does not move real time, needs a bit of a push with a finger.

2) when the engine is idling, can you easily, manually actuate the metal part showed with the arrow in the next pic?
I have seen videos of it and it seem to control gas quite well. on mine, this is quite stuck.

3) last but not least: vacuum ports. It would seem that my car still has the emission control parts mounted. The port on the left is going to the emission canister and the one on the right is connected to the distributor.
My understanding was that it should have been the contrary.
Any thought?

It's a very simple easy to work on carb.
#1 The Choke, with the engine stone cold Loosen the three screws and turn the black round casing so the choke plate very lightly.....and I mean very lightly touches the top portion of the choke horn. When it starts up the airflow should open it slightly due to the hinge position on the plate, and as the spring inside warms up the plate will open fully.
Confirm you have 12V at the choke when the engine ignition is on.
Not sure about # 2, is it hooked to the accelerator pump? maybe thats screwed if it is.
#3 The vacuum ports are ported on the passenger side and manifold vacuum on the drivers side, the car will run best the way it's hooked up.

thanks, so 1) rotating the black casing does not activate the hinge, I have to push the plate to help it. 12v, no problem and after a couple of minutes running, it opens. Probably need some cleaning.
2) if above needs to be cleaned, that one is even worse looking, so most likely stuck.

3)well, at least something connected correctly on this car, yoohoo!
