Default What issues going from Manual to automatic

I'm looking at a 72 stick car and my wife wants it with automatic. I like the frame, 383 and 4.11 gears in the car we are looking at and wanted to put in a 4L60e with a G force x member. Any issues with the floor pan or misc I'm going to run into?

What in particular is the issue? Drive shaft length? Tunnel clearance? X member position?

i put a 700r4 in my 69 convertible. a 72 may be different.
on a 69 with a manual trans the crossmember for the transmission mount is welded in place. very tough to get the new trans in. sounds like you are going to cut out the old one though.
the tunnel will need some rework on the passenger side.
definitely need a new driveshaft. three inch shaft may rub on tunnel.
rework trans to steering column lock cable mount.

All the above. Plus you will need a controller for shifting.

Yeah you won't need the z-bar as you're going manual to auto. In fact you can sell the z-bar.

I'm thinking you will need to cut out the welded in crossmember to ease installation. Maybe replace with one from bowtie overdrives or make the one you have bolt in with some welded on brackets (find a friend with a mig welder).

Drive shaft may need to be shortened but you won't know till new trans is in. Also the front flange on the drive shaft may need to be changed. Also best to use a strap type one to make it easier to install and also replace u-joints down the road.

Shifter is a cable type so easy to mount and fit. May not have to mod the tunnel but won't know till you try to fit.

You'll have to remove the clutch pedal. If I recall there is a pin holder the pedal arm to the pivot.

With old trans in car measure from floor to center of trans output shaft them make sure new trans is at same angle/distance to floor.

The other auto trans items will be adding a cooler and lines, flex plate to replace flywheel, torque converter, moving clutch switch wires to neutral switch on auto shifter and reverse lights.

Cheers

Dave

Yeah, plan was to cut out the x-member and go with an aftermarket solution.

I may walk on this 72 as the windshield frame is pretty toast. Got my eye on a 71 that has a TH400 in it right now.

If you scroll down in my build you will see how the tech built the cross member modifcation I wanted, my donor chassis was 68 manual my stuff was 69 auto, I have no idea if I will go 4 speed auto or 4 speed old stick but I knew the tranny cross member mod would help no matter what I did....

This was cheaper than the kits...
