Instsalled a Bow-Tie Overdrive 700-R-4 in my 76 with a crate 383. The shift from1st to 2nd doesnt happen until around 2000 rpm. 2nd to third about the same. You usually have to let. up on the gas to get it to shift any sooner. Getting into 4th (if it happens) only aaround 2500 rpm and letting up on the gas but even then it usually doesn't happen. I think I installed the TV cable correctly and the fluid level looks good. Also am running 3.70 rear. Any suggestions?
BTO sends out installation instructions with their transmissions and a list of pressures to test at that time to make sure the TV cable is installed and functioning correctly. What you describe sounds like LSS, long spring syndrome. Go to BTO's website and check their Tv cable installation instructions (TV 101), it will be a huge help in diagnosing the problem and determining a repair solution. Have you made sure the tv cable is tight at wide open throttle? Then install a gauge and see what your tv pressure is at idle with the cable hooked up, then unhooked and relaxed. It's also possible if everything is installed and adjusted correctly that the throttle valve is stuck.
Can you post a pic of your linkage set up on the carb?
Take the exposed section of the cable and pull on it letting it snap back a few times. Sometimes you can get the TV valve hung up and this process usually clears it.
I would also re-chect adjustment , as well as full throttle travel you may have cable out to far

Your TV cable is adjusted too tight. Back it off about 1/16" and try it again.

Will send by tomorrow. Have to take my wife out now. Thanks

Did pressure checks when I installed it, but I never gave the info to Bow Tie. Do you ou any one else know what the correct pressures are in each gear?
The pressures will depend on what parts were installed in the trans during rebuild. The important one in this situation is that the pressure only rises a few psi between the cable unhooked and hooked up at idle. Also that it starts to rise at the slightest throttle movement. I would try what's mentioned above, flicking the tv cable a few times to make sure the valve isn't stuck and then check the pressure difference hooked up and unhooked. If that pressure does not change and is above 90 psi, I would bet the valve is stuck. If it drops more than 5 psi when you unhook it, then you either have the cable too tight or too short of a throw at the accelerator, not giving the tv cable full stroke.

Yes, I just happened to know: Please note these pressures are for a fully-warmed transmission so you must run your car for a minimum of 30 minutes at a fast idle speed prior to taking pressure readings.
After taking the pressure readings @ 1000 rpm in each of the gears pull the TV cable out snugly and clamp it using Vice Grips. Then take pressure readings at 1000 rpm again with the cable pulled snugly.
To properly set the TV cable give it a full throttle and the TV cable should become JUST tight at the full throttle. Or a teensy-tiny bit loose at full throttle like maybe 1/16" loose. Note ALL pressure readings are taken at 1000 rpm whether the TV cable is connected or pulled tight.

canabait, this is a two person process. One person pulling the TV cable and the other person in the Vette with the pressure gauge from BowTie.
I have a 700R4 from BowTie, followed their setup instruction verbatim, and have zero issues. Here is the TV cabled attached to the QuadraJet in my 1974 Vette. Hope this helps.
