The indicators on my 70 don't flash very well or sometimes stop flashing altogether especially if you have your foot on the brakes. I'm assuming the flasher unit is getting "tired" but before I go looking for another one (and I'm not sure I can get one here, I've never seen this round type before) I thought it worthwhile checking with the electric guru's here in case there are other causes I might have missed!
Battery is fully charged and the charging system is working okay.
The emergency flashers will not flash if your foot is on the brakes, but the turn signals will.
1970 Emergency Flasher relay p/n 3928799, opt. 3904868, opt. 3934200. Located on fuse panel.
1970 Turn Signal relay p/n 3909545, located behind passenger side dash panel. Accessible from the bottom.
I've found originals on ebay in the past. If you just want a replacement, a local auto parts store should be able to help.

Thanks for the replies but the flasher unit is not behind the passenger side panel on this car I can hear it but can't find it so far! The hazard flasher is where it should be. No alarm flasher on this car either! I might try using a bit of plastic tube as a stethoscope to try and track it down. Maybe if I get one of the grand kids to listen they might track it down with their better hearing:-)
As stated above, the Emergency Flasher is located on the fuse panel and the Turn Signal Flasher is located behind the passenger side dash (near the eye ball vent).
Hmm, the hazard flasher relay is wired as the indicator flasher, there doesn't appear to be any other flasher relays fitted. Unfortunately while testing I turned on the hazard flashers and now they wont turn off, how do you get to the hazard switch in the steering column?
I must have a look and see if the pink and purple wires are still in the loom. As it is they are working fine now with a new flasher relay fitted in the hazard flasher position. I found the hazard flasher switch has a childproof release feature once I figured that out and turned them off all is good.
