I'm not ******* either of your choices, but since you haven't bought yet, check out cnc-motorspots as well, good dudes and good customer service.

Is there a particular reason why you are considering a 396?

Lots more power to be had with larger cube motors and more streetable as well.

Hit and miss. Some people are happy, others are not.

They are a big outfit. The parent company is Marshall Engines.

The Year One Crate engines have a decent reputation.

Call Mark, he's a one man show and takes a lot of pride in his stuff.

396 is the smallest bore BB. if you want cheap HP use cubic inches, like a stroked 454.
the block looks exactly the same on the outside. 5k is tight budget for a BB HP build.
good luck,

GM 496 Stroker with Iron Heads • Flat Tappet Cam? 480 HP/550 Tq and you could always upgrade the heads/cam for more HP.

I talk to mark Jones earlier. How hard is the swap from sb to bb?/suspension and everything has to be changed correct?

Need stiffer springs for the front. Then the acc brackets depending on when you want to reinstall as far as powersteering and such.

What about ATK High Performance Engines.

I've looked at atk. I wanna say that there prices were a little high. I've done so much research its hard to remember. Something I noticed though is that everyone has mixed reviews, whether it be skip white, atk, blue print, except mark Jones at vortec pro performance. His reviews are outstanding, on this forum and other forums also.

Mark is for real dude.

He is a stand up guy and turns out an excellent motor. If you go that route, just be patient with him. He is a one man shop and he takes his time. If he says he is gonna do something, he does it.

I just started running one of his builds, and I know there are a few others on here that do as well.

Buy from him with confidence, he's one of the good guys.

I was in the same situation 1.5 years ago. Ron (Cuisinartvette) suggested that I buy one of Mark's motors. Glad I did.

Couldn't open your file. The only thing I'm worried about is I was originally chasing a small because of the fact the c3 is set up for one. I don't even know where to find the ac brackets and what not for marks BB 467, and how much $$$ is my cassis gonna need to put this big block in. Do they make big block springs for 77.. Blehhhhh. Lol feels overwhelming sometimes. I was supposed to enjoy my crate motor search

For the chassis just stiffer springs. I tried the VPB 550 spring but I thought it sat too low.

I switched to Semi Coil Overs from Speed Direct with a 600 spring so I could adjust the height.

I'm assuming you did the BB swap? Where did you get pullys? I'd like to find a reasonbly priced pulkey system. And I need a 5 to 6 hundred poud spring?

I too went thru the search. Initially I was going to build my own big cubic inch SBC based on a Dart SHP short block. Eventually I ended up buying a crate motor from CNC Motorsports. Reputation, options, dyno tune, etc all helped with my decision. One factor affecting $$$ is your choice to use a GM block or a Dart block. Rebelrob runs a BBC and wines all the time about no room under the hood! Good luck!

White both clans .. Build dart motors on a scale that is impressive , I have a 427 sbc from them and every part described was delivered , I have had pan off to swap it out , bottom end is as described , valve covers I took off to hydro dip and the AFR heads and valve train is as described.. He even had in stock the AFR Titan intake.

I will be firing it up today or tomorrow .. Holley MPFI has been a somewhat difficult ride and has held up my build for a while ...

you have 5k budget, you can't build a performance big block correctly for 5k.
converting from sB to.... BB will cost you about 1-2k min.
review your desire against your budget.
if budget is set, build a small block.
