Default Defroster Vent gap?

1980 dashboard replacement. I got the dashboard off and started looking around to find out what needs replacing before the new dash goes on. There is a sizable gap between the defroster vent for the windshield and the lower housing. did something get lost in the last 35 years, is Bubba to blame. When I Googled it, I saw another vette with the same gap. The AIM has no usable info on this section. My son tells me that its normal because GM made it. Does anybody have a better answer?

The gap you're seeing is perfectly normal. Just wrap some masking or duct tape around it the best you can. Or, you can bend some thin gauge sheet metal and RTV it into place. As defrosters are seldom used its no big deal.

Funny I was changing out the heater core in my 78 and noticed the same gap in my defroster duct as well! I used some duct tape to tie them together. I thought mine was missing a piece so I searched the Internet.

Dearest Willcox,
Thanks for the new circuit board for the gauges, very nice , maybe they will work now. Also design an adapter that will fill the gap between the vent housings. The next time I replace the dash, I'll buy one.

Lol.. I'd make one but why? By design, having this gap allows enough air to reach the windshield to defrost it.. and also allows enough to escape to warm the back of your newly installed circuit board.. We can't have cold circuits can we.. Seriously, it's factory and it's not going to cause you any issues....

The statement that the circuit needs warmth is a myth, everybody knows they're cold blooded. I knew I should have bought the Ferrari 308 instead.
