A year ago my composite rear spring cracked and I replaced it with a new VBP 315 spring. I had them install the spring with the standard length leaf spring bolts I had purchased from another vendor. When I got the car home the rear wheel arch was about 28 1/2 to 29" above level ground. My front wheel arches are about 27" high. I have 225/70/15 tires on all 4 corners of my car. The two rear are new and the front two are about 1/2 worn. I bought 8" long bolts at VBP and took the car to a spring repair place this morning. However, I am not sure if the car is lower in front because the front coil springs are weak or if it is higher in the rear than it should be. What should be the height from level ground to the high point of the front and rear wheel arches using 225/70/15? Thank you.
Does anyone have a 1968-1972 with 225/70/15 tires all around? Can you check the height of the high point of the front and back wheel well arch to the ground? Thank you.

You really need to check either the AIM or Service Manual for exact measurements. But I will go out on a limb and say that C3's are or should be about 27 1/2" at all four corners, from the ground to the center bottom panel of each wheel well. I think your 225/70/15's are 27 or 27 1/4" tall. Then again the body may be anywhere from an quarter inch or higher from side-to-side. Again check the specs with any of the above mentioned books.
Try to get your rear spring bolts adjusted for 27 1/2" and I think you will be happy with the results. Tom

Can't take measurements because tires no longer on car, but I have a pic, side view that will show what 225/70/15 looked like on front and back if that would help.

I bought the same composite rear leaf spring and had the same height issue too. I ended up going back to stock metal leaf spring, problem solved. BTW, I had rebuilt the front suspension including new front coil springs, so the rear composite spring was definitely the cause of the jacked up look.
I have a service manual, but I cant find anything in there about the ride height. Does anyone know if I lower the back an 1" will the front rise an 1" as well or does it not work this way?

No, front and rear are really independent of each other with ride height. Your service manual should contain that info, it is usually listed in the front or rear of the book if I remember correctly and will give you all specs and measurements for the body & chassis. You can always purchase longer spring bolts to bring down the rear, but be careful of them rubbing the inside of the tire/wheel. But you can also cut the piece of threaded bolt that isn't needed after the proper adjustment is made. You can also do this yourself, just follow safe procedures if attempting this job, as with any job on our vehicles.
If you can take measurements of all 4 corners and post them. And pics would help too.
Curious to see what responses you get. Mine are even more extreme. 27.5" front 30" rear. Driver's side about .5" lower than passenger
Your front seems about right, but your rear is way to high. What spring do you have and are there anymore threads left on the rear spring bolts? I think that you will find most C3's have a slight difference from side-to-side, .5" is not bad at all.
On my 82, the LR is slightly lower than the RR, it's the nature of the beast. You could probably get the measurements correct, but after adjustments if you are a 1/2" difference from side-to-side, its no biggie!!!
1970 front and rear wheel well arch measurements with F70-15's (215/70/15) was 28" +/- from the factory.
So if I have 225/70/15 which is 27.4" high versus 215/70/15 which is 27.1" high does that mean the height should be around 0.4" higher? I saw somewhere the rear height was 27.76" with the F70 x 15 tires so maybe the height should be around 28.2" with the 225/70/15. Does anyone think otherwise?
I was having the same issue ..I have the 9 leaf metal rear spring. Mine was sitting at 31.5 with 6 inch bolts. As recommended by forum members, I replaced the 6 inch bolts with 8 inch. The lowest I can get is 29 inches. I can live with that. I'm also running the 225's. The front is 27.5. Front springs are also new. Good luck.
I am running BFG 255 60R-15's on my 69 big block with stock original suspension. Rear fender height to ground is 27.75 inches and front is 27.50 inches.

Nice looking 69, ride height is right on, hope the 74 will come out like that after completion....
The 225/70/15 tire is a little taller (27.4" vs 27.05") than the 255/60/15 so maybe the my car should be around 28" high in the rear. Thank you for replying and your car is really nice looking.

I would think mine has sagged a bit over the years. I read something long ago about GM setting the fender height in the 28 inch mark, give or take a quarter inch for a 69. I think that would be about right all the way around. My wife has a 78 and wondered why hers looks like a 4x4 when side by each. I just shrugged as the rear is easy to play with but the front is not and the last thing you want is a stock Corvette that looks like a 60's gasser.
I think the GM factory ride height started to increase in 74 or maybe 73.
