A set of dyno headers would have helped power significantly but this build was about originality everywhere except a dependable, modern cam/valvetrain. Wanted the idle tone to sound stock and power curve had to be broad with the three speed. I was awful tempted to put a 3.25 crank in it. Would have been 311 Cubic inches instead of 287
Power potential is limited by the stock components and CID. The .030 overbore, roller cam and a slight compression bump are the only changes internally. Externally it is 100% correct except the 1958 high HP aluminum valve covers. Very happy with the results. Thought it would be a good post for those interested in retaining a totally original sound, look and numbers but want a little more out of it, more of a "corvette" performer. I am a firm believer in roller cams, even used the stock timing cover and rebuilt damper. Since this is a low mile, correct car other than the engine was shooting for a return to original configuration. The 340 HP 327 in it now has a tripower on it. That was the big thing in 1962.
