Headlight actuator gunk

I'm replacing the seal on my headlight actuator and wanting to clean while it's off the car... Has anyone had any luck cleaning the gunk, and over spray on the metal part of the headlight actuators, without disturbing the metal? I have tried simple green, and purple power; just cannot get it clean...

I'm guessing you're talking about overspray due to a repaint. You could use lacquer thinner to clean that off.
