I'm going to have my exhaust system installed in about a week and a 1/2 and will be using Flowmaster 40's. My quetsion is will I need to get universal hangers and downward facing exhaust tips (like the stock mufflers) to make this fit/work correctly? I'm having a local garage do this so will they probably have the universal hangers there already, eliminating the need for me to find them? Thanks in advance.
Re: Quick question for the guys with Flowmaster's (Ryan77)
I had the flowmasters 40's installed on mine last spring. The shop should have everything you need there. Call them and make sure. Tell them you do not want to make another trip.
The muffler show I went to did not look like much, but knew what they were doing. I was very impressed. They had been reccommended.
You are going to like those 40's. Drove mine tonight and did not want to come home. Could have stayed out all night driving.
Re: Quick question for the guys with Flowmaster's (Ryan77)
Hello Ryan:
I just had F Master Delta Flow 40's installed on my 77 last week, and the stock position rear hangers were able to be used. Only the 2.5" threaded U clamp was changed to a new stainless (non-rusty) version. My 40's create much interior resonance between idel speed and 2K. I'm not too happy with that. But the exhaust note/rumble from behind is AWSOME!!! Especially above 3K... WOW!!! I have hi-flow cats on also, and they tend to tone the sound down a little. (yeah sure) There are two models of Flow 40's. The standard (loud) 2 chamber 40, and the supposedly quieter 3 chamber Delta Flow 40. Good luck in your choice....

OH YEAH.... I got an H pipe installed also...supposed to tone it down some....yeah, sure!!

I had 40s put on mine. Local shop did it and used a chrome tip to make the turn down. Here's a pic, the tip with dirty with fingerprints. The bumper is off now so you can see it really well.

:nono: 40's only have 2 chambers indepedently of the deltaflow, 50's are the one's that have 3 chamber. The Deltaflow tech reduces the interior resonance on both series muffs
BTW I have 2 flowmasters for sale 40's with DeltaFlow.
Re: Quick question for the guys with Flowmaster's (inferno-vette)
Thanks for the replies, I already have the parts I need, I got Hedman ceramic coated headers, an x-pipe, and flowmasters 40's non-delta flow. The shop, which I actually used to work at, will be bending and welding all the pipe for me, and the exhaust guy there is very good, I know I've watched him in action many times. I just wanted to be sure there would be no hidden surprises.
