Default Pulling head

Tonight I am going to start the process of pulling my driver side head due to sheared exhaust manifold bolt. I'm not sure what kind of lifters are in the motor so just wondering if I should be worried about the reinstall and setting up the rocker arm lash. Any tips or pointers would be great. Thanks

Number the lifters and push rods. They must be replaced exactly to match the cam. The lifters can probably be left in the engine if care is taken to keep them clean.

Should I be leaving the rocker arms on and just unbolt the head and pull it or do I need to remove all the rockers

"As long as I'm in there"! You can leave the rockers on the head, but depending on the age and condition of the motor there are a lot of options here. Pull both heads and have them rebuilt, change the cam, change the heads, pull the whole motor and go for broke! I guarantee in six months you'll be doing a frame-off restoration!

No need to pull lifters out .after you pull intake lay a clean rag in valley and set push rods across against other head ,most likely they are hyd. when you put things back together it take a little more time to set up lifters before you start up engine .
Shure there is no way to get to broken bolt without removing head ?

Yea the bolt location is driver side in the center of the head the problem is I can not get even a close quarters drill in to drill it out due to the steering box. I'm under the impression that when I reinstall the rockers I need to start at number 1 TDC take the play out of the push rod then tighten another half turn. Correct?

I would love to not have to pull the head but I have exhausted all my options on getting the bolt out. Any suggestions

If the bolt broke almost flush with the head. You can lay a nut over the broken bolt and fill it with a mig welder. Usually the broken bolt will spin right out after that kinda heat gets put to it.

YouTube has a few videos on how to do it. You may need to remove the steering shaft for welder access.

There are 3 (3/8 ) bolts holding steering box in if you take nuts off then the box should drop down .Giving you more room .Also if you drill small hole in center of part of head of broken bolt and use it as a guide to drill down about 1/2 " into broken part in block then use an easy out many times broken part will back out easy .as far as adjusting lifters look about how far nuts are now and I take plugs out and spin engine as I turn nuts down so oil can get in push rod up tp lifter .

IF you can get the manifold away from the head far enough to get a sawzall type blade in there just cut the bolt between the manifold and the head. Cut it off and let the machine shop drill it out.
