I just put true fuals on my 78 L82.. The pipes I got from MAD at $220 and a set of cheep walkers. The pipes were okay, they needed to be re-heated and bent in two places (I shop I deal with did this for me). The mufflers are okay, thay have a little louder than the stock ones. I don't like them to much so, I got a set of Flowmasters tri-flows from summit and going to see how they sounds/ I had these in one of my other cars and liked them. We will see, hope this helps?
There are complete kits you can buy but, you are cheeper in the long run doing it yourself.
For my 77, I talked to Mid America, they have Alum/steel and Stainless Steel kits for you car. I also talked to Allen's Exhaust at http://www.allencorvetteexhaustsystems.com/ They actually make the pipes for MAD. The Alum/Steel pipes are the same, but the S/S pipes they make for MAD are 400 Series S/S. Allen's will sell 300 series S/S pipes. (300 series is a higher grade S/S, more nickel, higher shine, less corrosion). Talk to Jim at Allen's. He was able to help me. I will pick up the pipes next weekend at Carlisle
Do it yourself kits don't necessarily mean "easy fit." Nor are they necessarily the cheapest. But the pipes and mufflers are generally first rate. So it depends on your priorities...
If you want to do it inexpensively, go to a "West Side" San Antonio muffler shop (how's your Spanish?) :D Seriously, though, there are some very good muffler shops in this town, primarily due to our proximity to Mexico... If you're interested, I can find out the name of a muffler guy in town who is reportedly excellent.
But bear in mind the upcoming emissions testing!!! :nonod:
I might do the Westside thing... you mentioned upcoming emissions testing, because of that I'm also thinking about doing a dual system with dual cats... saw pictures of one that someone posted on this forum (don't remember the name though) that looked really good
