The buzzer is in the horn relay on the left fender just forward of the master cylinder. I'm assuming you're talking about the warning buzzer switch in the steering column.
Everything you ever wanted to know about a Corvette Steering column and more:
I was referring to the piece that is in the steering column. It is about 2 inches long, about 1/4 inch square with two copper "tangs". I presumed this was what the ignition key tripped when inserted.
This car is a 19k mile original, fan belts, hoses, shocks, exhaust, everything when I bought it. I have replaced the bare minimum to make it roadworthy and safe. Anyway I just figured that over time this piece went sour? Perhaps it is the buzzer itself? (thank you by the way!)
No deal. The buzzer switch is not hard to change at all. Getting to it is something of a challenge with a T&T column. That link has all the info you'll need. On your new switch, those 2 long contacts hit a pair of terminals on the back of the turn signal switch. As you suspected, the insertion of the key makes the circuit and sounds the buzzer.
Look at a wiring diagram and figure out which wire in the column connector (harmonica) is the one to the key buzzer. Ground that and the buzzer should sound.
