Well this is a add on to my last post. Brand new 383 Stroker myt son overheated it is leaking anti freeze from the head. i am sending pictures of the head and gasket. Hoping it is just the head gasket need some input?
Piece of piston missing by the valve reliefs cut into the piston. Mostly likely hydro-locked when coolant got into the cylinder.
Sorry man... this engine is done. Your pistons are .040 which means this is probably this engines third go round. You need to have someone look over those heads real good to make sure they aren't cracked or warped either if you intend to reuse them. The block would have to be magnafluxed / checked for cracks as well... but with 40 over slugs its problably just better to get another long block then reuse any of this stuff.

What did your son do to "overheat" it? If everything was put together correctly (good hoses and a 7 blade belt-driven fan WITH a full fan shroud) it never should have gotten hot in the first place. It sounds like your son's dad is hanging his son out to dry for his dad's careless mistakes.
WOW!!! Sorry, that thing needs some serious professional work. Lots of evidence of detonation... and somebody drove it WAY past gauge and sound warning signs! Sorry for your loss.
Really depends on what you're wanting, if there's a budget you're trying to stay within. Throw out the $ figure you have to spend and you'll get all kind of suggestions here from us members.
Well i just spent $8,000 on the engine and the install. I would like to just drive the car. With the parts that i have from the engine what can i do to get the most bang for my buck? All suggestion will be greatly appreciated
With the existing parts, a complete teardown and inspection first. It looks like a piece of piston has been mashed into the combustion chamber in the last pic. If the heads are aluminum tear them down and have a fluorescent dye check and complete inspection. Basically, this motor is going to need another re-build assuming the heads or block isn't cracked. The pistons are shot and the rods may be too, they'll need to be checked. All the cylinder bores I can see are scored, a hone may clean that up, but may need another overbore.
The quick and dirty option is to get a good running used motor and drop that in.
Every part on the overheated engine is now suspect. You will need to tear down this engine and have every part inspected/tested before re-using them.
I would not use anything from that motor till its inspected, especially the heads. Did you ever get a final answer of what happen. The last thing I think you said was the shop put the belt on after it fell off. Did it fall off again while your son was driving it and it overheated ? Did the engine place do a turn key install ? Who did the pulleys and belts ? Are they aligned ? I would be getting some answers. If your the one who installed the pulleys and belts so be it, but if the shop who installed the engine did all this and the belt was coming off, I think you need to go back to them.
I agree about the shop if in fact they did everything. They have a pretty good chunk of the responsibility if that's the case. Back to the parts you can use... None without spending some money on them as mentioned above. Unfortunately you're in one of those all or nothing spots. Hopefully the shop steps up if it's their bad. Otherwise, you send this one out for a complete rebuild or buy a crate. Just to get going, you can buy a basic long block 350 crate for $1500 (I've seen some for 1200 on sale). You can even get a decent 355 - 383 long block for 3k - 5k and use your intake, etc. Whatever you decide to do, I would replace the water pump, thermostat and have the radiator gone through. That's just cheap insurance on any new engine.
