Getting ready to pull the engine to reseal and paint block. Looks like I will have to remove the hood to pull it. Anyone have any hood removal tips or tricks they can share?
Thanks,
Sam
Easy 2 man job. As mentioned above, mark hinge locations. Also, if first time at it, you might tape edges of hood to prevent chipping. And easy does it.
Thanks! I will definitely mask off the edges (didn't even think about that one). On other chevys, I drilled a 1/8" hole through hinge and into hood inner frame and used pop rivets to align it. Don't know if that is possible to do on glass hood.
If you have a method of suspending the hood from above (engine hoist or cords tied to a garage door opener tract), remove the latch mechanism and use those bolt holes to support the weight. It then becomes an easy one man job.
Just removed mine today....just as they said, easy two person job. Mark and tape. Take your time (it's really done in less than 10 minutes even if you go slow) to prevent any unwanted damage done to the paint.

I do have a hoist. I was kind of thinking of using the hood plenum (L88 hood) with a nylon tie down strap. I think it should support the weight of the hood. Then I wouldn't have to wait for one of my sons to come by and help. Hmmm
When I was doing my engine swap, somebody on another forum told me the hardest part was reinstalling the hood.
It wasn't.
Lol. I was thinking that unbolting the motor mounts would be for me (just because of space issues) or maybe disconnecting torque converter (same reason). Another pita is getting the transmission lined up when going back in. I've R&R'd lots of engines, this will be the first Vette for me. Easiest was 74 Chevy pickup, worst was 84 Trans Am.
