Yesterday I removed the front carpet - which means the seats also! - and completely lined the floor board and tunnel with a radiant barrier bubble type material. Floor board got two layers. Hard work in 95 degree weather but it is done.
Did not do the cargo area. I think this will be much easier and faster. But, question: Carpet in cargo area looks like a molded one piece thing. Looks like you can just take it loose at the top back and pull it forward to line underneath. Am I right it is only held in place by being molded and the clip piece under the cargo cover? If so, should be able to do in no more than 2 hours.
yep, it is not glued down. The biggest problem I had was getting the screws back in for the t-top hold down straps. I insulated the rear cargo area with that aluminum backed stuff from Home Depot.

Does this stuff make the interior quieter as well? I may be doing my Pace Car soon, and would like to insulate it a bit more.

Guess I can tell you tomorrow after my commute. I drove around the block, etc. and it did seem quieter. Was able to get everywhere, even up the vertical area behind the seats. It's not Dynamat, but its alot cheaper. Would think it helps some, and I look forward to putting in the cargo area which is right over the mufflers.
The material is radiant barrier bought at Home Depot. Looks like bubble wrap, but one side is shiny chrome like, other side is a plain white. Just laid it in place. The standard width of the material is perfect for the floor board. Cut other pieces to fit. Held in place by none other than DUCT TAPE. Once carpet is in place, who knows what is under there.

Re: Cargo Area Carpet (sd pacecar)
Larry I used the same stuff but mine was the insultion used to wrap heat ducts. You should use double sided carpet tape and some of that spray glue (check with your paint people) to hold down the rug. Have you intalled new rear speakers while you have all that apart? I put 6x9's in boxes from my local car stereo people and left the corners empty.
Ok, question.... this heat barrier stuff from Home Depot do you notice any noise once the carpet is in place? Any scrunching type noise when you step on the carpet? I have decided to tackle the inside carpet and seats myself and have pondered the cargo area and the heat barrier material.
No scrunching noise whatsoever. I only popped a few (like two) bubbles on each side, leaning real hard on the barrier with my elbow when working on the transmission tunnel. I believe the car is quieter inside. Will see tonight on the way home about the real heat saving.
