I have to replace the body mounts on my 74. I have been able to remove all but three of them. One of the #3 mount bolts and both of the #2 mount bolts are not coming out. It appears the retaining nuts are turning with the bolts. Does anyone have a proper and safe method to cut the heads off the bolts. I am a little leery of using a torch inside the fiberglass pockets around those locations. I would try the reciprocating saw, but it might punch through the fiberglass. Any help, short of using high explosives will be greatly app.
_______
Black 1984, 4+3, 1.6 roller rockers, side pipes, random cat, power chip and ce
nter force dual force clutch. More noise more better more money.
Well when I removed mine I used a torch...took some wet towels and surrounded the bolt head with em. Had a garden hose close in case something catched fire.
How about an air powered die-grinder. That would fit in there and you
could grind the head of the bolt off.
I took the front four out of my "new" '70 chassis/clip today.
I couldn't believe how easy they were. I think someone had removed
them sometime in the past.
I feel your pain. I just did mine this weekend; took about 8 hours of gymnastics but eventually I got 'em all out and only had to cut the rear bolt heads off. I wonder if you cut and pried the rubber section out of the way if you could then get the bolt shaft with a chop saw? Anyway, good luck.
Re: Need help with boudy mount bolts!!! (dually4wd)
I just finished removing all the mount on my 80. The two that gave me the most drama was both the #1's, but both I could hold back up on.... My handiest tool is my dremel tool, thats what I would use if I had your problem. I used it when removing my rear bumper to cut the frozen bolts, was a breeze.
Got both #2 bolts with the sawzall, but still can't figure how to cut the one #3 out, there is no room. Well if I can't get the clearence I guess a torch is next.
I feel your pain. For my #3 bolts I used a dremel and LOTS of their heavy duty cutoff wheels. I'd cut kinda down on an angle at the head and lop off part of the head, turn the bolt with vice grips or something, Lop off another hunk of bolt head and so on. So before you go that route, make sure the bolt is real loose and not just a little loose.
Once you get the car raised, you'll have to remove the cage nuts from the frame (sawzall) and weld on new ones. I know that Paragon Reproductions carries the cage nuts.
I Use a drummel tool with the cut off wheels to cut off rusty bolts when ever I encounter them. But I never done body mount bolts.
I do however want to replace them. Can somebody tell me a good book to buy or the location of the body bolts so I can do the same thing. If some one can give me instructions I would apprciate it.

Re: Need help with boudy mount bolts!!! (Road Racer)
#1 Bolt: Along frame in engine compartment near the firewall
#2 Bolt: Behind the kick panels inside the car (in front of the doors)
#3 Bolt: At the front of the rear wheelwells, behind a small access panel that's held on by 4 small screws.
#4 Bolt: Behind the rear wheel. Up higher, The inside part of them is way in the back corners of the rear compartment.
