Hi

Some more questions, pls :

the stamped VIN beside the Suffix is C9F16152.

Any idea to which of the 3 possibilities this points to ?

What does C10 to 3500 mean ? C10 is a date, but to 3500 ?

And shouldn't truck engines be tall deck blocks ? The 3970010 block is a pax car block also used in Corvettes.
Or is this casting # also produced as tall deck ?

The VIN stamp seems to indicate that the engine is out of a 1979 Chevrolet truck (9), assembled at the Flint MI truck assembly plant (F).

Yes, I'd say the engine is a 79 350/165 originally installed in a 1/2 or 3/4 ton Chevy truck with a manual trans and US Federal level emission equipment.

"C10" is not a date, it was the model designation for the size and capacity of a particular line of Chevrolet trucks.

C10 was the designation for a Chevrolet 1/2 ton pick-up, with rear wheel drive. 2500 and 3500 indicated a 3/4 and 1 ton truck, respectively, though I think they were actually marketed as C20 (3/4) and C30 (1 ton) at the time. The same designations were used with a "K" in front of them, when the truck was equipped with 4 wheel drive: K-10, K-20 & K-30.

And shouldn't truck engines be tall deck blocks ? The 3970010 block is a pax car block also used in Corvettes.

Wbrgds. Günther
Tall deck blocks were generally big blocks, and usually found in larger commercial trucks, not pick-ups.
