Default Electrical challenge!

So about 2 weeks ago I'm driving my 73 SBC (383) enjoying my tunes and the radio cuts out. I drive home look at the fuse box and see that the fuse has burned up. I put a new 20A ACG fuse (as called for in my owners manual) and as I'm putting it in it burns up. The Ignition was off BTW. Try again just in case it was a bad fuse, and what do ya know it does it again! Now I'm grabbing for my multi meter, and sure enough its showing almost 60 volts at the fuse. Has anyone had such an occurrence or is this an ignition issue? I'm thinking that I need to re-wire the fuse box but that's a tight space and I'm not small enough to spend that Kind of time twisted like a pretzel. In case your curious, everything else electrical in the car works fine.

I'm about to reach out to an electrical specialist but if someone can share an experience and advice it would be well appreciated.

If everything else electrical works, you don't have 60 volts. Disconnect the power lead to the radio and see if the fuse pops again. I believe there are other loads on the same circuit in a 73. You'll have to get a schematic and trace the short. One of the members has posted schematics for downloads.

You're right i had the multimeter on the wrong setting (duh) anyway yes I do have a short, seems like its coming from the ground side of the fuse line. I'll have to do a little more work to get to the bottom of it. thanks
