Have you checked the battery to ground? Just find some bare metal and run a tester from the positive terminal to the metal. If you don't get a light, that ground strap may have come loose or gotten corroded where it connects to the frame.
If your alternator is good it should have kept on supplying the power to your HEI. You say it died on the freeway? Did you get it restarted or did you get it towed home? We need a lot more information.
There was a pile up she's a beauty. So frustrated right now. It should be simple to find I would think. Is there a fusible link before the fuse box? I turn the key nothing no anything.

First of all is your battery any good? If its dead or has an internal break it needs to be recharged or replaced. Next put it onto safety stands and see of the wires (big and small) at the solenoid are tight and also see of the battery cable terminal is HOT. While you're there try jumping from the HOT to the "S" terminal of the solenoid and see if it cranks. There is a 10-gauge wire attached to the HOT terminal and I believe that wire has a fusible link in it so check that link out to see if it has failed.
Still no power to the starter or any of the power leads on any devices. Checked the ground in 5 places all good. Somewhere the positive is broken or a fusible link is bad. I checked directly to the battery always on terminal in the fuse box it is also dead. I used a fluke meter and a regular 12volt light tester hooked straight from the battery . Where is this thing? I traced the harness and it's tucked up right next to the brake lines on the driver side. Looks like I have to dismantle it to get to it. Any suggestions?
Any way that harness was the alternator positive cable lead looks like the battery positive goes thru the center of the console. Going to try there next.
I found it!!!!!!!!! The positive cable must have been hit by a rock or something it was cut clean in half. It was just back about 2' where it leaves and starts it's way to the starter. Yehaww. Thanks everyone!
