Default Need smallblock distributor advice on available options

Not corvette specific per se but my father in law has a 1950 Ford coupe that someone has put chevrolet front subframe on in irder to get disk brakes, power steering etc. it has a smallblock from what I believe to be a late 60's car. Not sure what it is from specifically. It is an old points and condensor setup.

The engine is tucked pretty far into the subframe to where there is very limited space with regard to the amount of room between the back of the distributor and the firewall and also between the top of the distributor and kinda like a ledge above it.

The system is problematic and I would like to replace it with an electronic setup of some kind. Is there something available that would work with the space requirement? A full late 70's HEI setup would hit the firewall for being too wide in diameter so it would not fit that way. Something like the Mallory's that I am thinking of would be too tall. Is there a short or low profile electronic distributor that anyone can think of that would work in a late 60's early 70's small block?

All ears!!!

A GM small cap HEI (uses a divorced coil).

I agree, I added an Aldon Amethyst electronic control to my std dist setup, this also got rid of the vac advance can so left even more room around the dist.

Ive had good luck with the MSD ready-to-run set ups, no external control box, same size as the points type distributor and a nice advance curve.

I second a Pertronix unit. Personally, I would consider the Ignitor III since it has the rev limiter. You need to use HEI style (not solid core) wires, is the only drawback.

The regular Pertronix Ignitor is the easiest deal, but it doesn't have the rev limiter.

The rev limiter is a good thing, in my book.
