Default 1980 side yoke play/movement

I disassembled my 1980 corvettes differential because i have some side yoke endplay on the RH side. As you can see on foto2, my pinion shaft has some minor riffles, but the side yoke ends are still in a good shape. I didn’t measure, but estimate the space behind the cirrclip is about .02 inches. So when i pull the tire von 12 to 6, there is too much movement in the half shafts. Looking through different forums i heared about fixing this endplay by shiming the cluth-pack or posi pack, but i am not exactly sure how to go on. This is my first rear end work. Could you tell me what to do next? Should i take out the half shaft and side yoke? Where do i exactly place the shims? Do you have pictures of the shimming steps?
Can anyone help me?

Its normal for the ends of the yokes to wear because the weight of the rear end is pushing the yokes against the center pin HARD and when you turn corners the end of the yoke scrubs against the center pin. When the wear gets to the point where the snap rings are against the pin its time to replace the yokes and start the wear process all over again. Its too bad the engineers didn't anticipate the wear problem and mill flat spots into the sides of the center pin to reduce the rate of wear.

Would you recommend to exchange center pin and side yokes or can i try to put a thicker c-ring in?

The wear you see is normal and too be honest the 80 to 82 yokes in the aluminum diff see to hope up to wear better than the last of the iron diff yokes.

I have an 80 and all vettes have some movement in the yokes. I would only replace the center pin.

Unless the car is road raced and you're looking for every 10th of a second it's not worth the expense and time to shim IMO.

I use my 80 on the track so I eventually went with a double a-arm rear suspension where the drive shafts are no longer part of the suspension, but that's overkill for the majority of cars.

Could i put in a thicker c-ring to minimize the play?

Which tool do i need to open up this kind of screws?

What did the engineers think when designing those differentials? You have to disassemble the whole posi unit to get out the center pin. 😭
