Default Keeping Maintenance Records

In each of my vehicles I keep a 4" X 6" spiral ring maintenance record notebook and an ink pen so the moment I replace a part or do an oil change I immediately log it. Our memories just can't remember when parts got replaced so its always best to log every repair in a small notebook and keep that notebook in the vehicle.

Along with the date and mileage I often include the price of the part and where I bought it. Having accurate maintenance records often makes it easier to diagnose problems and gives you an idea when the part is likely to fail in the future. If you don't keep a maintenance record right now I suggest buying a little notebook and start keeping records for your C3 and any other vehicles you have.

I keep a loose leaf binder at the house with the FLEET info in it, duaghter's car, wife's car, son's carS, too much to remember. Not so much for the costs, but it does make things easier when it's time for brakes or belts etc.. For other than routine stuff, I also note what size wrenches I need. That saves a lot of walking back and forth to the tool box. And I agree, records are important and you can learn stuff from them.

I keep records and scan all installed part packages and related work done to the car.

I've got a file folder where I keep all the receipts/packing lists/invoices etc. of money spent on the car. Everything from parts to oil changes. Came in handy once when I couldn't remember exactly how much I paid for a caliper: I knew right where the receipt was.

I have another folder for my DD, with the same stuff in it. Works well enough for me.

I've got the receipt pile on the garage bench, I don't dare tally it up or it will prove my wife right in the fact that I spend way to much money on my vette.

Me too. I have a 3 ring binder in each car/truck and they are full of document sleeves. Have some work done, buy a part, insurance renewal, registration, it all goes in the binder.
I did get stopped by the LEO a while back- he asked for registration and insurance- "it's in the binder on the floor in the back seat, I'll be happy to get it for you".

I actually use a fleet management software I found years ago. It allows me to add up to ten vehicles and log all the maintenance and service. I can enter all the part number and prices for when I use the same stuff over and over like oil filter, etc. I keep track of everything on the ATV, John Deere tractor, and all of the vehicles. It's got quite the database in it over the last couple of years. I can print out all the service when I sell a vehicle to give to the owner. I'm really surprised sometimes about I thought I just did a service only to find out it was a lot longer than I remember.

I have a computer in the shop that I use for quick research and logging the service. And I do have a file folder that I keep many receipts in for warranty and reference.

I have a google speadsheet for each car and I record maintenance, repairs, part numbers, filter type, oil plug head size, oil capacities etc. also include tire dates on non DD. Have spread sheets for my yards tools, ATV, and trailers. Just too many things to keep track of.
