Hood keeps un-latching under hard accellaration????
Any idea's? Is this the nature of the beast with a ragtop? I'm thinking that the torque is twisting the chassis unlatching the hood.

My 69 did that also. For me, the hood wasn't latching 100% on the drivers side. I had an interference with the wing nut on top of the air cleaner. I would check all of your clearance ( you can use cheap modeling clay on top of the air cleaner). Then I would check you latches them selves. I think the area on the body is adjustable (up/down) to get better latching.

vettfixr: Great tip on this subject. I don't have a problem but I am going to check this to make sure I have them set right. I knew this trick for the air cleaner but never thought about the hood stops :cheers:

I could not find any clay or play doh so I used white lithium grease. A small dab on the bumpers to see if there is contact. Found out one of the latch pins had loosened a little on the passenger side. Hood was slightly raised on tha tside and was not contacting. Screwed the pin in 2 turns, all is well now. Also put a slight amount of grease on the latches. It opens much better now!

My 1970 BB did that a couple times. But after i had the engine rebuilt and balanced, it stopped . Im not complaining, but, it seems strange. (maybe my mechanic planed a bit off of the intake !! :))))

In addition to the air cleaner clearance, I had a problem with the ignition shileding wingnut making contact with the hood. After I took care of that problem I found I had to play with the hood latches, ie, loosen, reposition them slightly, test, loosen, reposition, test, etc. etc etc.... repeat until you go absolutely crazy. My hood still pops up at the bottom of my slanted driveway and sometimes when I hit a bump. I know there is a sweet spot in there somewhere that will keep the hood down, but I havent found it yet. i had it for a while but then I messed with the latches to clean them up. couldnt find the sweet spot after that. Just FYI, this kind of saved my butt when my hood pull handle wire snapped a couple of weeks ago. Hmmm, let me think how I can get this open....find big pot hole....hit it at high speed....presto! :D :D
