Default Anyone run LS1 fans?

This question a spin off from another fan thread I posted and got lost but I am most curious has anyone ever put the LS1 fans on a c3...if so what fitting hassles were there?

Thanks,
Cheers,
Bats

i looked a year ago and couldn't find much info about ls fans on c3s, i saw some people used Mark VIII but didn't think I had the room. I couldn't find Tarsus fans either so i elected for the focus fans and they do ok but I want ot add ac and not sure they will keep up. I found a Taurus fan but its been to damn hot here to install it.

I am not moaning but don't wanna high jack the thread with other fans talk not that the ls1 question is going anywhere.
I wish someone who has actually tried chimes in and says LS 1 fans will not fit, ( or will )

With that said I have a Taurus 2 speed fan it would have cooled both my 383 and 454 IF I had not been using an old worn out base model radiator.
The down side is the shroud is to narrow and lets some radiator hang out, I will likely make a better mount for it and run it while I try to figure out which dual fan I desire.
It moves more air than most dual 11" fans.

If you root around search and Google lots of people run the Mark VIII on c3's ( and other things )
From what I have seen there was a one speed and a two speed the 2 speed actually being some cross breed different blade and motor pair ups,
The used market is getting a bit skinny on the 2 speeds no way to know how much life a used fan has left.

I liked the LS1 fans as they are dual like I desire and move a heck of CFM of air

I'm using the fans (and radiator) from a '99 Camaro in my '82, the PCM for my LS1 controls them and they work really well. It only uses the high speed when the A/C is on, the low speed keeps it cool enough even on the hottest days.

Now we getting somewhere...

So do the fans/shroud fit in there okay, did you have to cut them?

They're a snug fit, but no trimming necessary.

Do you believe they will clear a spreader bar?

I think so, but I'll know for sure in couple of months when I install my Speed Direct spreader bar.

I mounted the entire LS1 fan assembly and radiator that I took out of a 2004 coupe onto my stock 1977 core support with really no issues at all. My plan was to eventually mount the condenser as well, but have not gotten to that yet.
If I remember correctly the fans take a direct 12 volt hot and they are turned on by the sensor grounding them, I think I used Bosch relays. Sorry, it's been about 5 years since I did this.

I did add 2 extra leads where I could ground each fan separate from the relay in case one of them failed but I have not had ANY problems.

I did the LS swap when it wasn't that popular so I fabricated some simple mounts that attach everything.

I think a spreader bar would fit but it will be tight.

Hope that helps, Happy Motoring -
Frank

I was going to do wiring where they both run low then both run high just using relays and temp switches.

I mounted LS fans out of a camaro and they fit was nice. Had to trim a little for clearance of upper arms but no big deal.

I run a stock 02 radiator and fan assembly in my 69 LS Restomod should clear the stock suspension with ease.
