Default 1972 Courtesy Lights - HELP!

Having an issue with my courtesy lights and hoping someone has resolved the same issue. My car is missing the front door jam switches and the 20A fuse blows as soon as I install it. I found that the left side of the fuse holder always has power. The right side has power when the headlights are turned on and when the switch is turned all the way counter-clockwise to turn on the courtesy lights. The orange and white wires connected to the bulb sockets both have power when the headlights are turned on and when the switch is turned all the way counter-clockwise to turn on the courtesy lights. The left and right white wire for the jam switches both have power when the headlights are turned on and when the switch is turned all the way counter-clockwise to turn on the courtesy lights. The black wire on the driver side that runs from the jam switch to the key warning has no power ever.

Does this seem right? Am I only missing the door jam switches?

As I am missing the door jam switches, I decided to check if maybe that was the problem and I grounded one of the white wires for one of the switches. As soon as I turned on the headlights, the courtesy light turned on! Without the 20A fuse in the fuse holder! After about 1 second, the instrument light 5A fuse blew and all lights went out.

Can it be a headlight switch issue? It seems like the original headlight switch.

FWIW: why not buy and install a pair of door jamb switches then see if you have a problem?

Thanks Easy Mike, I was thinking the same thing. The wiring diagram I have shows 2 wires connected to the drivers door jam switch (orange and black), however when I went on-line to 3 separate vendors, I only find switches with 1 connector. Does the drivers door take a 1 connector or 2 connector switch?

Depends on how many wires your car has at the switch.
Do as I usually do when I go to Home Depot for house projects.
Buy both /return the one not used.
Most Forward jamb switches are self grounding so when the pin extends, as when the door is open the switch is closed.

Your courtesy lamps should only come on when you either 1 open a door or 2 turn the light switch CCW.
If they come on when you turn on the headlamps, there's a problem (Thanks Capt Obvious)
Courtesy lamp circuit also powers the clock and cig lighter.
Cig lighter is a direct short system and is common for failure at the lighter element
