After you "played" with the timing did you remember to tighten the distributor hold-down bolt? And please explain the reason why you decided to play with the timing.

It sounds like your distributor spun when you stopped at the light. The sensors would have stopped you before you got out of the driveway if they were the cause. Try moving the cap one way and then the other to see what happens.
If nothing, go back to basics. See if you have spark and fuel.

Default changed top modular piece under distributor cap held by two small screws

Still not getting spark the old modular deal was lightly black burnt in center and had a small piece of mettle like a fishing weight sitting on top of old piece loosely unattached :/

Did you replace everything with made in China parts from your nearest parts chain?

I don't mess around with ignition parts and only buy Factory GM stuff.

I've set the car back to top dead center and removed distributor as a whole. I've tacked down two local leads on some workin used hei GM distributor gonna drop a working unit in tomorrow hopefully (depending on price ) and check for spark again I'm starting to worry I'm gonna replace everything with a dollar sign to find out I have a ground issue somewhere :/

I'd at least get an ACDelco module, especially since it's unique for an '81

Rock auto has Delco stuff at decent prices, and you can usually find at least a 5% coupon code if you search online.
