After you "played" with the timing did you remember to tighten the distributor hold-down bolt? And please explain the reason why you decided to play with the timing.
No the bolt was left snug but loose for adjustment and because it was 180degrrees the wrong waywhen purchased . I've yet to actually pull a plug to ensure there's no spark yet but certain nearly that it dosnt
Also I drive it with out coolant sending temp or oil temp sendin unit plugged in what effect can they have on this old style simple computer....little to none i hope
It sounds like your distributor spun when you stopped at the light. The sensors would have stopped you before you got out of the driveway if they were the cause. Try moving the cap one way and then the other to see what happens.
If nothing, go back to basics. See if you have spark and fuel.
I pulled a plug and had my 5 yr old crank it over for me ..no spark plugs were black and wet . Have new modular to replace under cap looks easy enough also have new coolant temp sending unit and connector .. still cant find a wire to fit or reazch oil temp sending unit ideas....
changed top modular piece under distributor cap held by two small screws
Still not getting spark the old modular deal was lightly black burnt in center and had a small piece of mettle like a fishing weight sitting on top of old piece loosely unattached :/
Did you replace everything with made in China parts from your nearest parts chain?
I don't mess around with ignition parts and only buy Factory GM stuff.
The modual thing I just replaced was from o Riley and has lifetime warranty but was only 11 bucks. Ac Delco is the cap and I'm unsure of the rest was only told it was all replaced before buying car so yeah damn

I've set the car back to top dead center and removed distributor as a whole. I've tacked down two local leads on some workin used hei GM distributor gonna drop a working unit in tomorrow hopefully (depending on price ) and check for spark again I'm starting to worry I'm gonna replace everything with a dollar sign to find out I have a ground issue somewhere :/

I'd at least get an ACDelco module, especially since it's unique for an '81
Rock auto has Delco stuff at decent prices, and you can usually find at least a 5% coupon code if you search online.
I have an extra 81 correct Dizzy with new guts and the necessary electrical pigtail to connect the dizzy to the computer. Shoot me a PM and Ill ship it to you free of charge.
This forum is great and I couldn't have restored my 81 back to full CCC control if it wasn't for this forum. Ive since sold my 81 and have a C6 now..My way of paying it forward.
