Default brake pads?

I'm nearing the end of my suspension/brake overhaul and can't decide on the brake pads. Any suggestions? I'm running SS o - ring calipers, stock style rotors. Looking for good bite but also can't stand squeaky brakes. I'm thinking about going with hawks but not sure which ones.

What are you using the car for, cruising, track?Personally I like organic for the street. They stop good when they're cold and during normal operation. They are very easy on the rotors also.My rotors are original(46 yrs). The dust factor is minimal,If you're going to use the car on the track forget this suggestion.

No track but I'm very performance oriented. I've also just realized I've been pretty satisfied with the brakes thus far. Maybe I don't need to spend more money on stopping and spend it on acceleration!

Good performance with no noise Porterfield R4-S or Carbotech 1521 are my favorites.

I'd rate the 1521 better then the R4-S though.

I have used Performance Friction on my 78 L-82 4 speed with SS OEM lip seal calipers with SS braided brake hoses for 12+ years now with the OEM rotors. PF pads are rotor friendly, never squeal, have little brake dust (almost none that can be seen), last forever (use them on my DD cars as well Chrysler 300 Hemi brakes and Grand Prix-all 4 wheels-never seem to wear out). PF pads are not grabby but very linear-the harder you press, the harder the car stops...zero fade. They do require minimal heat to work best and are a very little weak at very cold temps (under 40 degrees) but I have no problems with my DD's in cold winter weather just have to be be slightly aware. Don't get the Z rated pads but the regular PF pads since the Z rated require more heat to work properly. They are also very inexpensive..about $50 per axle. Performance for the dollar is unbeatable.

Take a look at the Carbotech 1521 pad. If interested I will be happy to help you.

Carbotech™ Bobcat 1521™ The Carbotech Bobcat 1521™ is our high performance street compound that is our most successful compound. The Bobcat compound is known for its awesome release and modulation, along with unmatched rotor friendliness. Like our AX™ & XP™ line of compounds, Bobcat 1521™ is a Ceramic based friction material offering minimal rotor damage and non-corrosive dust. Bobcat 1521™ offers outstanding performance, even when cold, low dusting and low noise with an excellent initial bite. This compound’s virtually perfect linear torque production provides incredible braking force without ABS intervention. Bobcat 1521™ operating range starts out at ambient and goes up to 900°F. Bobcat 1521™ is suitable for ALL street cars, perfect for your tow vehicle, police cruiser. The Bobcat 1521™ compound has been found to last two-three times longer than OE pads you can purchase at a dealership or national retailer. That’s one of the beauties of Carbotech Ceramic brake compounds. Bobcat 1521™ is NOT recommended for any track use.
