Default Evap Core Box Insulation

I'm trying to put my A/c heater system back together with new parts and I am trying to make it as efficient as I can. SO my thought was all the heat from the engine compartment is surrounding the evap core box on the firewall. Has anyone tried insulating the box? Maybe spray foam inside the box or some foil backed insulation on the outside. I suppose if this was a GOOD idea, I would have heard more about it. Just figured that since it is all apart on the bench, now would be the time to do it. Thanks.

I used this http://www.lowes.com/pd_13353-56291-...d=1014123&pl=1 you can also wrap your lines with it.seal the joints were the two haves come together.i have seen metal plates installed on other cars to defleck the heat.

just sealing up the two haves helped a lot .adding the insulation may have helped some .putting in the heater hose valve helped the most.anything that you do to keep out heat is a plus.

I had wondered about this also. I would think if insulation inside the firewall or in the Trans tunnel helps keep heat out then lining the box with insulation should work also.
I like the idea of sealing the box halves.

I would tend to believe your idea should work. Can't see how it would hurt to try and not expensive.

I think some insulation should be put inside the plenum..thermodynamically it's really poor with no insulation.

Mr Rat, that was exactly what I was thinking, but maybe putting it inside. I need to see how tight the fit is since there needs to be room for the air to circulate. Thanks to all in this thread.
