Rear Shock Mount Bolt Removal - Tool/Tip
I recently replaced my strut rod poly bushings. These bolts had been removed about 5 years ago, so they did not give me to much of a fight. I think I loaded the new bolts up with grease and anti-seize when I installed them years back.
Had this foot long piece of 1/4" or 3/8" steel plate I got from Glackore to make a motive brake bleeder cap.
Rear of car on standard size jack stands, first notch.
I positioned this steel plate vertical with one end between my shoes sitting down and the top side flat up against the shock mount bolt. You can see the impact marks. Gave it few good whacks with the 3.25 lbs steel hammer. I also sprayed a good helping of pb blaster on the area about 2 hrs before for just in case measure. Bolts backed out at my surprise much easier than I thought they would. Last time I had to cut them out. I still have PTSD from that.
I did not have a thread cap tool. This was the next best easiest thing that came to mind without anyway of damaging the threads.
(Hearing protection is a must).
Hope this helps anybody going thru this for the first time.
You should be able to buy steel stock like this from a home improvement/hardware store.
