Default window motor

OK, my '78 window motor is history. I am in the process of rebuilding the car and have worked my way to the windows. The windows are down and I jumped the moror directly and got nothing. I know what I need to do re: replacing & repairing everything, but I cannot figure how to raise the window far enough to reach the rollers in the track to unscrew them. Maybe I should just break the glass now and get it over with! Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks,

How did you jump the motor? Power to one terminal and ground to the door frame? If it's dead, try taking out the motor mounting bolts that hold it to the regulator, then you can raise the window by hand to get it to the right place.

Yeah, just hooked a battery to the 2 leads, tried switching both ways and got nothing. I wasn't sure if I could raise it by hand once I took off the motor. I guess that will be the next step. thanks.

It seems I remember having to put a HOT to one terminal and a GROUND to the other terminal to make the motor run. Putting the GROUND on the door frame itself didn't do it. Try that and see if it works. I am getting older by the day so my memory may be failing me.

To be clear, just hook to one lead at a time, and ground to the door. One is for up the other for down.

OK, I also thought hot to one wire, grnd to the other and switching polarity would make it go up or down. That didn't work. I went back out and tried hot to one lead and ground to the door frame itself, and I am proud to say…I finally got it up! Needless to say a complete rewire and good ground system is on the to do list. Thanks for the feedback.

You may already know this but....if you have to remove the motor there are two holes in the scissor section (visible in the photo ) that will align with the window half way up. Slide a 9/16 bolt thru them to lock the window in place while the motor is removed.
