Default Speedo cable question? (removal)

It has been many years since I changed a speedo gear in a transmission, so, I can't remember if I should expect a gush of ATF when I pull it. If so, can I pump the ATF out of the tranny with one of those dipstick oil pumps?

Let me put this in the proper perspective.

I have done a really dumb thing, I am pulling my transmission to fix some seal leaks (just about every seal is dripping) before I install my new ZZ-4. The old engine is out of the car, driveshaft disconnected, crossmember is off, cooling lines off and the shift cable is off. The only thing attaching it to the car is the speedometer cable. At this time I have the transmission setting on a rolling dolly under the car. The pan is still in place and the tranny is full of ATF. I don't have space under the dolly to place a drain pan under the dolly, and I don't want several quarts of ATF running all over the place when I disconnect the speedometer cable.
PS
I'm going to install a drain plug when I get this b@$t&Rd on the bench!
