Default Question about ceramic coating

I have read here on the forum that ceramic coating on headers it helps with lowering heat in the engine bay.If that really works why wouldn't you do the exhaust pipes running under the car to help with heat inside the passenger compartment. Or is that just a stupid question? I just read one post and it started me thinking.

No reason you couldn't and some people have. Just adds more cost.

Coating the mid pipes that connect at the cross member would help as they are right by your feet.

I was wondering because of all the attention I have read was to put insulation under the carpet. I have not read any thing about put ceramic coating on the exhaust pipes. I was not planning on doing it, was just wondering if anyone had. Thanks for the replies.

I ceramic coated the entire exhaust system for my 78. For me it was an issue of finish and durability. I custom made mine from mandrel bent pieces (aluminized) and wanted to make sure they didn't rust, also, I figured that it would help with heat as well.

I didn't want to weld stainless in my garage as I have heard it gives off noxious gas.

Luckily, I live 10 miles from Jet Hot in NC, so I didn't have to pay for shipping. It wasn't cheap though, for a set of long tube headers, and the rest of the system (including the header flanges and exhaust tips) it was around $900 to coat.

Can't comment on heat yet as I am just finishing up getting it running after a frame off and two years of work.

Yes, it was expensive, but it looks great....

My '71 would stay like that for about 2 minutes. As I have a whole mile of dirt road to traverse in and out the whole underside (and top) stay filthy ALL the time.

Looks real nice..................

I think you're thinking of galvanized steel.

I checked the Lincoln site and you are correct, they do not mention noxious gases with stainless welding. They do mention that you should not use the standard mix of 75%CO 25%Oxygen for best results.

I knew it was gas related.

Has anyone converted painted headers to ceramic coated?
I like the heat saving idea and increased life span.
Also I prefer the silver/gray/chrome look to the painted black look.
Txs for any input.

They will stripe/blast the metal as a prep before coating. So no issue.
