I just ran into an issue after replacing the intake manifold (Edelbrock #3701 with EGR). I re-installed the Holly dual port Carburator but my new purchase of an original Thermostatic Air Cleaner base does not fit with this dual port carb. I've read that the Quadrajet (which I don't have) may be the only one that fits with the original air cleaner base required for SMOG.
Q: Is there an Edelbrock carb or other brand that's 50 state legal that'll work with the original base?
I can of course put the Holly back on at some point unless I can get a legal carb with good performance.
Thanks
Here's my new build. Started up after partial rebuild and front end tear down.

Most Holleys need a different manifold pattern than the Q-jet. It looks like that Holley is a standard base Holley and you will need a different manifold for the spread-bore throttle configuration of the Q-jet. That being said, there's nothing wrong with Q-jet performance when set up properly, and you can pass smog too. See the many posts here on the forum about Q-jets.
It looks like you've got headers on the car, too. How do you intend to hook up the "hot air tube", that attaches to the intake snorkel on the air cleaner?
Holley used to, and may still make, a Q-Jet (spread bore) replacement, that might do what you're looking for, assuming you don't have a working Q-Jet that you can use.
BTW, that's NOT a "dual pot" carburetor...it's a "Four Barrel".
This part is legal for use on Emissions Controlled Vehicles when used in accordance with the manufacturers application guide because it has a California Air Resources Board Executive Order number or is a direct or consolidated replacement part.

That might work, but if I interpret the OP's question properly, I think he's having trouble getting the OE air cleaner, with it's various smog equipment, to fit his non-stock Holley carb.....

Yes, this is my problem. The Holly has two fuel ports on drivers side and appears to be longer length wise than the Q-jet would be which is why the OEM air cleaner base does not fit. I just installed the Edelbrock #3701 with EGR to meet that smog requirement but does it not fit a Q-jet if I go this route? Ouch!

This link looks like a nice option if I wanted to go Holly vs. Q-jet. I would really like to keep what I have but how to make it work with the base appears impossible. Could there be an adapter that might work?

The Hedman Hedders #68301 come iwth a hot air tube that attaches to the top of the exhaust and to the port on the underside of the base. I have a slightly different version on there now but will need to be replaced with the #68301 that has the CARB# before smog.

This 0-80555C Holly says its a spread bore which looks like it would work with Edelbrock #3701 and has an EO #. Thanks
Now how to get that price tag down? hmmmmmm.
