I just got off of the phone with flowmaster, they say they are recomending 50s for corvettes cuz it gets pretty loud with the glass body. then i research on here and clutchdust says
" think either set of flowmasters will be surprisingly mild once installed if your just replacing the factory mufflers and making no other changes. going with the 50's would certainly be mild, so mild you may not even be able to hear them with the windows up and the radio on even at full throttle."
Im confused...can we rehash this one more time...I want pretty loud outside, some sound inside, hopefully not a loud drone that gets irritating on the inside.
Re: Flowmaster questions again??? I know I know... (DollaGreen)
I have the 50s on mine and they are not quiet at all. They are plenty loud. I think the 40s would be too loud. There is no tailpipe on the car so the muffler noise does not get cancelled by a tailpipe. I can hear them with the hardtop on and windows rolled up very easy. The 50s make plenty of noise.

Here is a short clip of my car. Three chamber Flowmasters, 1 5/8" headers, 2 1/2" pipe and a balance tube. Its not what I would call quiet at WOT. But with a 700r4 its livable on the highway.
Re: Flowmaster questions again??? I know I know... (DollaGreen)
When you say 3 chamber flowmasters, are these the Deltaflows? The local muffler shop is suggesting 2 1/2 pipes into Deltaflow 50s. These are staight duels on a 74 ( no cats ). they say 300$ parts and labor. Good price?
Re: Flowmaster questions again??? I know I know... (dman535)
I have only been able to find the delta 40's. The Delta 50's are too big, the size of mine (OEM) are 14 1/2 long x 9 1/4 wide x 4 1/2 thick.. The delta 50's are 17 inch's long, way to long for my 78 vette.
Anyone know if they make a delta 50 in my size and what the part number is? Also, were to get it?

My $.02: Why not start out LOUD (w/chambered pipes) and then calm them down with an "H" pipe if they are too loud for ya? Worked for me.....almost toooo calm now......
Re: Flowmaster questions again??? I know I know... (SLICKMAN)
I have 40s on mine and it is LOUD. But mine is a short cruiser and not an everyday driver so that what I wanted. I haven't got to drive it on the road yet though :cry so i can't say how it is at highway speeds.
Re: Flowmaster questions again??? I know I know... (DollaGreen)
I will be able to give you a clip of my 81 with Flowmaster 40's and H pipe on Monday night if you can wait. I will have a before and after sound file :)
Flowmaster recommended the Delta 50's, small area for the muffler equals more resonance in the car, and the 2 1/4 pipes over the 2 1/2, will handle up to about 350 hp).
They are not too loud. At 1500 rpm there is a little resonance in the car but not too bad.
Re: Flowmaster questions again??? I know I know... (DollaGreen)
Well, I went with a borla in Stainless Steel.. Other than the 40 series, flowmaster does not make the right size that fits without making it fit. I want it to sound good and look right. I had this muffler in my jeep and it sounded great, so, I think this was a good choice.. We will see :D
Re: Flowmaster questions again??? I know I know... (DollaGreen)
I would love to hear the other file. I just got power back after 24 freakin hours of no electric. I never realized how much we need it...man that sucked. High winds knocked trees down, 60k people out of power. But anyway...let me know when you have the recording! That would be great.
Re: Flowmaster questions again??? I know I know... (DollaGreen)
The one thing you need to make sure you do when you listen to a muffler. Be sure you listen to a car that has about that same mods (if any) that your car has. Many mods will make the same muffler sound totally deferent especially head work and headers..
Re: Flowmaster questions again??? I know I know... (SLICKMAN)
"The Beast" was quite an inspirational wav file for me...that sound, is what got me to start modding my car...I caught it in a post a while ago and it was on my desktop for quite a while. Love that sound, but i think those would be too loud for what I want.

3 chamber flowmasters are 50 series, the 40 series are 2 chamber and the Deltaflow is just a deflector on the inside, not another chamber.
BTW muffler shop should only charge ~$200-$220 including everything labor.
