Default Heat Riser Valve

Is there any down side to leaving the heat riser valve out of the exhaust pipe when I put duals on my 77?

Most duals are going to come with a wider diameter pipe there, so you would have to just take the flap itself out of the assembly. I suppose it would be harder starting when very cold. That was the intended purpose: easier starting when cold.

I took mine out since I only drive mine in the Summer months. The intent was to warm the engine faster. Like over-heating ever happens in a vette.....

nothing will happen except little slower to warm and a driveability little worse until warmed up, easy to live with, just like no choke, just have to get used to it. :D

Another forum member who switched to headers gave me his metal donut spacer, and both gaskets since he no longer needed them. The metal spacer replaces the heat riser valve. I think he got it from Corvette Central originally. It allowed me to fix my exhaust leak. The gaskets will blow out over time when the heat riser valve tends to stick and the EGR path in the intake is all plugged with carbon. That's why a lot of stock vettes have an exhaust leak.

Thanks again John!!!!
