Default Ignition switch problems....still

I asked for help in disassembling and installing a new Ign Sw. I received some good advice and was able to finally remove the old switch (non tilt wheel). Installed new switch and thought every thing went well until I went to remove the new key. I cannot get it to turn to the lock position so that the key can be removed. I tore it back down again and tried to remove the new switch to see if it was defective, but now I cannot get the new switch out......very frustrated.... would appreciate any help or advice on this old 69. My gray hair is turning a different shade with this continuing issue. Thanks in advance to those with suggestions.

The Transmission/Steering Column Lock may be out of adjustment. The cable in the image below (T) connects to the lever that extends (toward the engine) from the base of the column. The cable is connected to the transmission linkage and will only allow the key to be removed when the lever is in the full up position. Find the lever and pull it up as far as it will go and then try to remove the key. If you can now remove the key, let us know. You'll then have to find out why the lever is not being put in the full up position.

Pulled the cable as high as possible, but still could not remove the key. Could it be tied to the reverse link to transmission. I just rebuilt some of the interior and had the console out which meant I had to remove top of shifter.

Check the linkage at the transmission. If the lockout cable is all
the way up and the transmission is in Park, it should look like this:

As a test, you can disconnect the cable from the lever at the base of the column and see if the lever will then move higher and allow you to remove the key. If this does work, the linkage is out of adjustment. If this does not work, you very likely have an issue inside the column that will need to be addressed.

Good luck... GUSTO
