Default Electric actuate Head Lights

One of the initial conversion I planned for my 72 LT1 was to convert the vacuum operated head light into electric motor actuated. I completed the desgin several months later (that was 5 years ago), this due to my lack on understanding in regards electrical system.

I can wire up your standard relay for electric fan and the electrical system for the HOD I build.

I met a gentleman over the weekend during Carlisle, he sold he conversion kit. Looked like a nice design. Has anyone got one of his kit? those who have, can you share the wiring diagram that came with it. I caught part of his conversation with a prospective buyer, that he tapped into the side maker light to activate the relay to pop up the light.

I don't get how he stopped the motor after the head lights are up and how they retract back when the head lights are turned off. Thank you in advance. Oh yeah, for my design I used window motors from my Mercedes Benz 300D.

There have been a few threads about do it yourself conversions posted, most with a ton of pictures & diagrams.
Most of those conversions were done for a FRACTION of the cost of the kits out there.
Mine for one... using Mazda Miata headlight motors and a couple relays, with a home-made bracket (courtesy of a template posted in one of those threads) cost me about a hundred bucks.
The Miata motors do a 180 degree turn and stop themselves, so one turn opens, the next turn closes.

If you wire the headlights to the parking lights-when you turn on the hazard the light will open and close w/ the flashing of the lights!!!

There's a couple other ways to wire-

1)Use a C4 light switch and run two wires to the motors

2) Use the headlight wire before the dimmer switch and a Bosch relay

3) Use the high and low beam wires at the headlights- and diode isolate them along w/ a Bosch Relay

The motors used are off Mazda Miata and Ford Probe. They (electric headlight motors) are an ingenious design- where as they go 180º stop and when triggered again go 180º as Jim (oldgto) stated.

email me at richard454 at comcast.net and can send you a PDF I have put together on testing/wiring/installation.

I've used the motors for other things as well-

I`m REALLY considering abandoning my seat motor for the wiper door.... and using a Miata motor for that also. The seat motor moves too slow, and I like the way your wiper door opens & closes quickly. GREAT idea!

See you are in So MD. My paintshop in Sterling has a bunch of heavy duty custom brackets already made up to fit the Ford Probe motors. He just had me buy the motors and he put them in for me while the car was there for painting. Not a forum sponsor, so just PM me and I can get you his info, I'm sure he would probably just sell a couple of the brackets and we can meet up sometime so you can take a look at how he did mine.
