Default educate me on clutch adjustment

I had my 69 out this morning. I was on a back road and put my foot into it and it revved up. AT first i thought my back wheels broke loose and then I realized the clutch was slipping. When I first got the car I tried to adjust the clutch as it grabs all the way at the top. There really is no inch of free play that mt Dad always talked about in his Chevys. So do I need to figure out how to get some free play or does this mean my clutch is worn out? As you probably have guest by now my other cars have automatic transmissions in them. Thanks

How much adjustment is still left? If the adjuster is out at the very end it might be time for a clutch

I think the adjuster is actually in. I will see if I can make it longer if that is what you believe it may need.

Well I adjusted it the other way and it doesn't really want t drive. Adjusted it back(all the in shortening the rod) and it drives but I guess a clutch is in the near future. thanks

do you have a little more than 1 inch of free play at the clutch pedal when pushing it down with your hand till you feel resistance?

Yes, there is about an inch before the petal has resistance.

Looking down at the clutch z-bar from the top, break one of the nuts loose so the block is free. Move the block toward the end of the threaded rod to reduce the amount of free play. If the clutch is really worn, the nut on the front end of the threaded rod will be close to the end.
