I'm looking at those complete pre-cut packages from American Corvette, and they're not too expensive (sub $200). My question for the experts: is it worth it to get one of these sets, or would I be better off just getting some quality carpet and backing and cutting it to fit myself?
If you are an expert at cutting an fitting carpet, you probably would be better off cutting and fitting your own, or going to a place that specializes in recarpeting cars. We had a former forum member (she sold her car :( ) that had Mercedes carpet installed in her car. The pictures looked great! But I think it was many times the cost of precut carpet.
There are some other guys that did their own carpet and were pleased. In my case, I'd never attempt it.
If you want the best price and highest quality then check out Romeo Engineering, they are a very small outfit and apparently operate on a shoestring, but the quality of their carpet is pretty much identical to the original.
I think Alwyn did his own carpet also.
I cut and installed my own.
Which by the way, isn't as difficult as it may seem. The pattern is already there. Simply remove one piece at a time, tranfer the piece to the new stuff, cut and install with 3M adhesive.
Total job took about a weekened. Looks BETTER than original because house carpet is softer, giving a fuller more plush look.

I did mine myself and it was not that difficult at all .......Vendors carpet is usually very Cheap and poor quality...I also used Mercedes Benz carpet
I also used ACC.... perfect fit... excellent quality. Better than original. Took a full day to rip the old stuff out.... clean everything up... and install the new carpet... but well worth it.
