Default 81 Corvette Stoker Kit

Hello everyone,

I have an 81 Corvette that I am about to install a 383 stroker kit on. I am trying to find out what type of oil pump I need for the system. Can I keep the stock volume oil pump on there, or do I need a high volume? I have heard horror stories about both. I don't plan on racing it or anything like that, just having some fun on the street.

383 stroker kit
stock heads (all new internals)
comp cams street performance camshaft
Weinan Street Warrior Intake
Edelbrock Performer 750cfm carburetor

Thanks for your input!!!

You absolutely can keep the stock volume pump. I'd probably go with a new one with a new build, but you'll be fine otherwise. Good practice to replace the pump drive a metal collared one too.

You'll get 900 opinions. Myself, I like the GM 3848907 pump. Number may have changed but it's the Z/28 pump from years ago. Replacing it is pretty cheap insurance for a new motor.

New, and I'd use high pressure not high volume pump.

Yeah the Z28 pump is what you want

A stock pump is all you need unless you're planning on beating on it on a regular basis.

I'm using a Melling 55HV pump. Pressure is a tad on the high side, so if you can I'd start with stock.

Little tip on your build; don't forget your oilpan may not clear the longer stroke crank.
