Difference between a 1978 and 1979 clock..????
Is there any difference between the original clock in a 1978 and 1979 car...if so how do you tell the difference....
I do notice on some clocks advertised that the *** for adjusting time on some is black (as on my car) and some silver...which is correct for a 1978
Looking to find a replacement for mine...but want to get the correct one...

There is none... the 1978 and 1979 clocks were the same (standard borg movement). The one below is a original clock. I have a low mileage 78 but I've never paid much attention to what color the clock **** is... I'll look at some pics in a second to see. Brian you might want to think about purchasing a 78/79 NCRS Judging manual if you are trying to restore the car to original. This is what they say: "the clock has a red-orange sweep second hand. Flat black background with white numerals. The reset **** for the clock is black with a black stem." The original mechanical movement causes the second hand to step approximately 90 times each minute.".
This probably is more than you want to know but FYI.
and no difference between 78 & 79 as Willcox mentions. My 78 has a sliver **** but the previous owner made some changes.

I looked at pictures of my clock but I can't tell if it's chrome or black. GM only serviced one **** kit and it actually came with two *****, on for the borg movement and one for the general time movement (they had different stems). This **** kit came only in chrome. My car is very original so Tuesday, (if no one else answers) I'll take a look at it to see.

Nope.. all Corvette Clocks were manufactured by Borg from 1963-1982, most General Time clocks were used in passenger cars. If the movement is NOS you should have a sticker on the side of it telling you "for service, send to Borg". . .
The clock in your lower picture has had the second hand re-painted and it's the brighter color 1980-1982 look. The 1978-1979 clock looked more like the one in the top picture.
I don't have my original 1978-1979 books available to me at home but this is what my data base shows.
I believe the original part number on the clock was 25023252 and replaced by p/n 25017279 (I can't nail down the replacement date on this from here). 25017279 only stayed a little while and was replaced December 1981 by p/n 25044715. 25044715 was the gm clock for the 1980-1982 cars which was a quartz clock and not a standard borg movement clock which is a typical p/n substitution by GM. I can nail the dates down on Monday but I don't think this is relevant to your question.

For what it's worth, I took a look at mine.
My white79 and my Pace Car clocks are identical with RED sweep hands and black *****.
My black79, built last three weeks of 79 production, has an ORANGE sweep hand, black ****. Could be an 80 thing as I have noticed a couple other seemingly 80 things about it.

You can adjust the timing of the standard movement clock by turning it forward 12 hours to speed up, and back 12 hours to slow it down...

Spoke to a friend who is the original owner of his 78, L48 4spd (Muncie transmission) & has been through the NCRS judging a couple of times. He said the stem is black as is the ****. August 78 build.
