Default Missed shift damage?

Hello all.

Specs on my car are stock BW Super T-10 with probably 200k miles on it. 5k miles GM crate 290HP engine.

Was racing a buddy the other night and missed the 1-2 shift. Banged the motor up to who knows RPMs and the transmission ground the gears a bunch. High rpm shift point. Engine seems fine, no abnormal sounds, oil pressure is unchanged, cold starts fine. Drove home 30 miles also fine. Other than something I cant tell from those observations it seems fine. No weird top end sounds, silence as usual so I guess there are no valve/pushrod problems.

Issue is the transmission. There are no problems actually shifting it gear wise - no grinds or difficulty. The issue is now the "gate" between 1-2 and 3-4 is "tighter" - there is a definitely stiction going between the two shifter sides that wasn't there before. Is the shifter mechanism bad or the trans needing rebuilding? The shifter was checked out and adjusted about 4 years and 5k miles ago.

Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks,
Will

Sounds like a linkage issue. Disconnect shift rods at trans arms, put pin in guage hole at shifter linkage to align arms at shifter. Check to see if shifter arms drop right in to holes on trans levers. Might have bent 1/2 arm a little or jacked up your linkage a little. Hopefully it is just a minor adjustment issue.

That is what I was hoping....adjusting that isn't a problem. But while I'm there, should I rebuild the existing shifter and/or upgrade to a Hurst unit? Are they even worth it? I don't really ever plan to change the transmission...

No question the Hurst unit feels more solid, but it is pricey!
