I got there Friday morning at 7:30am. The gates were to open at 7:00am, so I'm amazed to find already a huge contingent of cars and people. The flow of cars into the place just doesn't stop.
I grabbed some breakfast at the grandstands. We're talking a homemade type bacon and egg experience made by grandmothers. You find a spot at a table and you're surrounded by guys that want to talk Corvettes and do.
At first, I wanted to see the variety of great examples, then I wanted to see the cars for sale to get a feel for pricing. Then I found myself by the parts and vendors, and started strolling those isles. Then I figured I was missing the new cars coming in for sale. I starting looking for the forum, but never did find it. I checked out the auction tent, and I saw the 53 that was restored to perfection. The body was more perfect than any new 53 ever was.
Then I started looking for my club. Never did find it, but I talked to a lot of other club members. Finally, I sat down to watch the dyno runs and saw a Z06 pull 385hp. I wanted to dyno mine, but the line was long and she needs a tune up. The grounds are so immense that by 11:30am, I'm very tired. I realize I haven't done a good job of attacking the place.
3 hours on the turnpike and I'm home wishing I had another day to fit it all in. It is that huge. I took some pictures, but there is no way to depict the vastness of the event through a photo. It's really something to experience. Remember, this was only Friday up until about 2:00pm. I understand the place really cooks on Saturday and Sunday.
Near the dyno, there's a steep hill you can walk up to view the entire grounds. It is a "Sea of Fiberglass". Thousands of vettes!!!
We walked through the Car corral too. Prices we generally way over priced there. We saw a nice 75 that was 80% redone with an asking price of $25. But the deals were there also. A 62 with matching #s about 75% done was $20k.
I spent most of my time visiting the vendors. I picked up a vacuum hose set from Dr Rebuild -- who quite helpful today, Pioneer radio from Custom Autosound, set of bulbs, headlight actuator , etc...
The deals are there if you have the patience to hunt them out. Last year my brother in law scored a nice set of aluminum rocker panel covers for his 62 for $10 !
This event is a  for every corvette enthusiast...
Steve, I was there all day Thurday and Friday and there was a lot of good stuff there. Prices were high on most of the cars in the corral, but that's usually the case early in the show (early optimism, but they always seem to drop in price as Sunday afternoon nears). One of the more interesting vendor spaces was Street Shop, Inc. who had a display of a mandrel bent tubing C-2 frame upgraded with C-4 steering and suspension (he said it could easily be modified for a C-3). Pretty awesome and I only wish I had met the guy before delving into my 66 Coupe project years ago as I would probably have asked the guy to build me a frame. At this point I am just glad I left before I bought another car (and I really had my eye on a C-4 Grand Sport)... :yesnod: I did pick up a few items, but only about 1/8 of my "hope" list.
I was able to "catalog" four more '75 L-82's for my ongoing '75 L-82 Survey, so it was a decent weekend. Saw a '75 Bright Yellow L-82 roadster, Saddle Leather/Automatic, most options, needed some minor cosmetic detailing for $15,800. I never had a Yellow '75 L-82 in my survey, so this is a first for me. Also, some one I knew bought a '75 L-48 roadster, automatic, Millie Miglia Red/Black Leather, manual windows, no tilt, no A/C(just the way I love 'em!!!), 51,000mi for $15,000. It was a very nice '75 roadster---tough look!!! Also, the Corvette sales to me seemed WAAAAYYYYYY down!!!! I saw several, several '78-'82s in the $6K-$7K range and they did'nt look bad, matter of fact some of them looked really nice, but no one was even looking at them!!!! Saw some guys asking $12K-$14K for '73-'79 coupes that were in OK shape that were REALLY dreamin'!!! "Prestige" motors had a nice looking '68 British Racing Green 427 roadster that had the "smog" pump missing and Uniroyal radial tires but had 100% "ORIGINAL" all over it's windshield  All in all, ddid see a "few" cars with "SOLD" on them, but not very many. :nonod:
This was my first visit to Corvettes of Carlisle... and WOW :yesnod:
We were there only on Saturday but I was there long enought to tell the
wife that I was going home and save money for the trip next year to get
the many things I found.
I hope to get all the components for my removable rear window.. Found lots of Windows by not alot of the interior components. Guy from Denver going to put together everything I need and send it as a complete kit.
The number of cars there was just unreal.. I thought that vettes were a specialty car.. From what I saw, everybody has one. And most are really nice.
Looking forward to next year :yesnod: :yesnod:
And again WOW !!!!
Left home at 4am to arrive at fairgrounds just after 7am Friday morning!
Highlight for me was getting my book (and program) autographed by Dave McClellan (and his wife! :) )
Helped out at the NCM table Friday afternoon selling lots of 50th anniversary apparel.
I broke my digital camera last week in Monterey so no pics now :(
Thought car corral asking prices were silly. My comment was I was very glad I did not come to Carlisle to buy a car!
It rained late Friday night and Sat morning so attendence was down. It was cloudy and rainy so I left my sunglasses and sunblock in the hotel. Sure enuf, cleared up nicely so I had to buy some clipons!
Spent some time at the auction Saturday late morning. A few decent buys. I have some details I will post later.
Staggered up and down vendor aisles and lost track of time and missed the forum date at Zip tent.... sorry!! (2nd year in a row!!!!).
Today (Sunday) was a great day for a drive, and we did!! (home) :) Vette behaved real well on 350 mile roundtrip. :) MJ
My 6 yr old son went with me and his highlight was when I ploped down the cash for a gold split window.............. HOT WHEEL
See ya next year
Our club had 12 cars from Charlotte caravaning up to Carlisle on Thursday. I ran into other Queen City Corvette Club members at the show so I'd say we had 20 cars from Charlotte. It was my first time there and was quite impressed with the turnout! However I was disappointed to see the low price that the '53 went for, which was 175K. I was hoping that it would go for more considering the cause and what the car represented. Sad thing is that Pro-team will probably resell the car for more than that. 100% of the money went to charity. ANYWAY, tons of people there. Wish I could have met up with the other C3 forum members. I did talk to a few '70 registry members near gate 3 on Saturday. It would have been good to have faces with our names! I can truthfully say that I've now had my car over 100 mph on the way up! First for everything! The trip back to Charlotte was even more eventful. The weld on the flange of my passenger side muffler on my '98 decided it was a good time to let go at 80mph. (We don't need no stink'en Borla's!) It's in the shop as I type. :cry Most impressive was the parade to downtown. Well done by the directors. So, I'm back in town remembering the good times there! See you back there next year! :seeya

(And if I could ever had the time to post a pic of the cars, I'd show them off!)
