Default Clutch Replacement

I need to do an overhaul on my Clutch and need some help. This is for a 1969 350/350hp, muncie 4 speed ( I believe m-21)

How do I determine the specs on the clutch it appears that in 1969 the 350 takes either a 10.5" or 11.0" disc ?

Autozine has a Cumberland clutch kit for $150. Zip has a clutch kit for $179.
Any recommendations?

I plan on replacing the pressure plate, disc, throw-out bearing, Do people recommend replacing the Fork also?

Any thing else I should do?

I am thinking of sandblasting the drive shaft and painting it while I have it out. I know to mark the orientation of the shaft for re-install.

It's been 30 years since I replaced the clutch on a 1967 Impala SS Convetible, 327, Muncie 4 speed. In the back yard on the grass without a transmission jack.

It really sux crawling out from under the car with a 4 speed laying on your chest!

I have the same question myself as to what size the clutch is. I do not believe you can tell without taking the transmission out.

I swapped trannies and the clutch on my 69 L46 this year. The L46 has an 11 inch clutch. I got a Hays, and I recommend it. :yesnod: Get your flywheel resurfaced too for the whole 35 bucks it costs.

AC

[Edit - The Hays kit comes with the clutch disc, the pressure plate, and the aligning tool]

Also replace your pilot bushing/bearing while your at it. The fork should be fine.

This also the time to check the Z-bar where it attaches to the frame and engine as they tend to wallow out over time.

i've been told that the only difference in a 10.5" and 11" clutch is a 1/2". i know that sounds like a stupid answer but it was explained to me that the pressure plate holes line up and everything is the same. supposedly, the only real difference is in the centrifugal weight. smaller, lower power engines will respond better with the 10.5 due to less rotating mass and they will not overpower it. higher power engines may require the 11" for the additional grip and leverage of the wider disk. i know nothing, that is just what the guy from centerforce told me last year at SEMA. if your interested, i think i have a e-mail address for one of these guys, IM me privately.
